Cognitive Performance Specialist

Key Role:

Train military personnel to develop and use the cognitive skills necessary to perform optimally in training and operations, including using evidence-based peer-reviewed literature train. Educate military personnel, individually and in group settings, in cognitive, mental, behavioral, psychosocial, perceptual, learning, adaptive thinking, human engagements, and emotional control skills, strategies, including comprehension, acquisition, and retention performance improvement and maintenance with documentation of work performed, implemented, and provided to military personnel. Assist with Human Performance (HP) program manager and coordinator in matters relating to mental performance, exercise and sports psychology, including provided information about mental performance, exercise and sports psychology factors in sports, exercise, and physical activity. Train and educate on goal-setting, performance profiling, visualization, performance development, and planning, including participating in periodic meetings to review human performance training provided to patients, and identifying opportunities for improvement. Collaborate with the HP staff to enhance the quality and effectiveness of mental and human performance development and expertise delivered, including conducting periodic literature reviews to ensure HP stay current with the provision of care. Support research conducted under supervision of the HP program manager and coordinator, assist with developing and maintaining practice guidelines to ensure consistency of service across all Human Performance Training Centers (HPTCs), including developing and promulgating training materials, as requested and required by the HP program manager and coordinator. Participate in periodic in-service training for members of the HP Staff, collect and report all data, as requested by the HP program manager and coordinator, document work performed, use referrals, and all other information in the HP enterprise-wide database, including SPEAR, as directed by HP program manager and coordinator.

Basic Qualifications:

-5+ years of experience as a mental performance coach or sport psychologist with individual athletes, and groups of athletes at the levels of NCAA Collegiate, Olympic, professional sports, in the accompanying, and respective settings

-Experience with computers, software, and technologies to track information for the program

-Ability to list and manipulate loads or weights up to 25 kilograms and capable of meeting physical demands of tracing with the military, including hiking over rough terrain, function in austere environments, and on various fixed or rotary wing aircraft, including waterborne craft, or ground transport to observe military training evolutions to conduct training and evaluation

-Ability to obtain a clearance

-MA or MS degree or PhD in Human Performance, Kinesiology, or Exercise Science, or Sport Sciences with a specialization in Sport Psychology

Additional Qualification:

-Secret clearance

-Ph.D. in Human Performance, Kinesiology, or Exercise Science, and Sport Sciences with a specialization in Sport Psychology

-Certified Consultant through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (CC-AASP)
